About the team

Researchers and builders behind this Western Isles interface.

Emma-Jane MacKinnon-Lee · Alexander Wallace — GIS and land-use researcher — Western Isles interface team — Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand

Alexander Wallace

Alex is based in Castries, Saint Lucia, and has spent several years working across GIS, surveying, and land-use research. She started out on infrastructure mapping projects, then became more interested in older estate layouts and how they still appear under present-day roads, parcels, and informal paths.

Her work is split between field visits and map work. She often compares current site conditions with older plans, looking for places where the paper record and the ground do not quite match.

She keeps layered working maps with survey data, photos, notes, and small corrections that usually never make it into official files. People tend to come to her when something looks simple on a plan but feels wrong in person.

Emma-Jane MacKinnon-Lee

Emma-Jane is based between Bordeaux and Paris, and has spent over thirty years working around texts, archives, and translation. She began with literary and academic material, then gradually moved into legal records, estate papers, and documents tied to Caribbean land ownership.

Her work sits between translation and quiet archival research. She pays close attention to wording, especially when the same estate, family name, or land term changes across French, British, and Caribbean records.

She keeps her own working index of names, places, and recurring document fragments. Most of it is private, built slowly through commissions, side projects, and long stretches of reading through copies, notes, and partial records.
